Whilst there are forces of change in the Catholic church, this doesn't mean that they are Catholic forces - any more than Tony Blair is a socialist, despite being the leader of a socialist party! The definition of the Catholic Faith is what is laid down in the councils of the Church - not what its members might like to think. Whilst it does all come down to definitions, as CS Lewis points out, being a Christian is something more than just being nice. Ultimately it won't do to remain in a church which believes something in clear conflict with your own belief, when the definition of that church is that belief which you reject - it is bad for both you and the church, whose credibility is undermined by the presence of schismatics within...... |
