Bitterness

Thanks for the warm welcome and for keeping me in your prayers. Indeed, when I am most lonely and downcast, I try to remember what it was like for Jesus in the garden about to be betrayed and crucified, and meanwhile his closest disciples can’t even stay awake (cf. v40, 43):

Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him and he began to be sorrowful and troubled. Then he said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death.”

I remember my affliction and my wandering,
..the bitterness and the gall.
I will remember them,
..and my soul is downcast within me.
Yet this I call to mind
..and therefore I have hope:

When I wrote the poem, the above portion of Lamentations (3:19-21) and the experience of Naomi in Moab (see postscript below) was my basis for contrasting having a bitter life and being bitter towards others. As I walk with the Lord, this is something that I am working on eliminating with His help. Thanks for your compassionate understanding and I know that I am not alone.
