| While I agree that if you are not confident of your ability to keep things from getting out of hand, you should refrain from pursuing relationships with boys, I do feel that sometimes to do God's work requires you to get off your behind and go be proactive. Often things do just fall from the sky and you find yourself in a perfect situation obviously handed to you by God. But other times, to do God's work we must go out and find those needs ourselves. I have a few perfect examples from programs I have been involved with. I had it in my heart to do a toy drive last christmas for needy children. No one came up to me with the idea, it didnt come to me from running into a needy family, it was simply a need that I knew was there and I wanted to fill. I couldve waited for God to hand me things, or for some opportunity to present its self, but had I done so, nothing would have gotten done. Instead I had to be proactive to take this idea bring it up to the right people and get things moving. I had to go out and identify who the people in need were, they didnt come to me, I had to go out and find them. Nothing was handed to me, I had to create the opportunity. Another example is a roof we helped build for an elderly man who had been living without a roof for over two years (since the last major hurricane). Someone in the group I work with realized that they have engineering skills that could be used for the glory of God and that together we have the manpower to go nail together some wood and build a roof. So, he went to several government agencies, to locate who may need such a service and he found such a person, and we did it. Had he chosen to wait until God brings someone in need into his life, we wouldve never met that man, and he would still be without a roof. There are many such examples, doing God's work sometimes is as easy as dealing with the people God miraculously puts in our lives, other times we have to go out and find those people who need what we have to offer. |
