which is a remarkably unpopular doctrine these days - but is a future reality, and one which in effect occurs for each of us at the moment that we die. Sad but true!

One of the reasons that so many churches in the Western world are so into politics is that we have stopped talking about the realities of death and what happens afterwards. The church offers us hope after death - but when death is such a taboo subject in modern culture, we are deprived of our primary source of relevance. So we wander around looking to improve our own lives by 'self development', or focus on the important issues of global development / pollution / arms control / women's rights - ultimately to the exclusion of our primary call to make disciples of all nations. Of course such involvements are more comfortable - we don't like having to be challenging - but that is part of what it is to be living according to God's agenda, not the world's.
