It's the old line - Jesus spent his time amongst those who were the outcasts of society, and BLs are pretty much as outcast as you get. So - do we have a call to be visibly present over there a bit? We're certainly a lot better placed to be a Christian presence than the average wandering Christian who might drop by, and we might help reduce some of the anger that I've seen in them over religious issues. I'm chewing this at the moment for me; as my life is relatively stable and comfortable at the present time, I feel like I've got the space and energy to do it - but I'm aware it not risk free; there is the alternative warning of St Paul that 'Bad company ruins good morals'. As we spend time with those who have a substantially different moral code, the temptation to relax our own views is ever present. Comments anyone? |
