Over-reactions galore...

In light of the negative responses, despite whether or not they are known trolls, I invite them to read the rules of the CBF.

First, "Who may post at CBF." It clearly states that anyone can post here, even if they are homophobic space aliens.

Of course, that logically brings us to the next bit, since we cannot allow insane abusive types to post around here.

"Guidelines for posting" says flames aren't tolerated. I would assume that encompasses both homophobic flames and non homophobic flames.

So Rahiim, if you want anyone to take you seriously, control yourself. You've got the freedom of speech, but that just means that the government can't shut anyone up. From your typing and such I assume that you are capable of writing a serious post that actually expresses your views instead of canned curse words that have been diluted of value from overuse.

Next, "A Statement on Abuse" asks people to make the distinction between attraction and behavior. For most, it is a subtle hurtle to overcome. I think some people here need to make more distinctions when reading posts here. We need to make the distinction between a flame and a valid post, especially when it comes to discernng between anti-homosexual posts and intelligent posts which can probably be seen as disagreeing with homosexuality.

In regard to this post, I've read through it a couple times and I don't see anything in it that says "homosexuality is bad."

He was merely talking about what views a church should put forth in its prayers. To make a very extreme analogy, what if the prayer went like this:

Lord, i do not always find it easy
To accept that my child is an axe murderer
So many strong and harsh opinions are expressed.

That would be pretty uncontraversial. So a parent finds it hard to accept, that's OK. There are strong opinions about axe murderers too.

What if it continued like this:

Be with me in my confusion
When the world changes
Our children defy laws
And find new ways of expressing their hate.

Now there's where it would get nasty. A lot of people would object to those lines because it would imply the church fully accepts murders.

Naturally, with this example, there's no ambiguity, murder is a bad bad bad bad thing.

But with homosexuality, there are some people who aren't entirely sure about God's view on homosexuality. Forgiven's point was there there is very little in the Bible for or against homosexuality.

As for the remainder of the post, Forgiven did compare gays to Hitler and abortionists, but that was from the standpoint of propaganda. I could compare the U.S. Highway Commission to the Nazis in that they both built some nice roads.

How does a group go about convincing a nation of an idea? It can't do it the same way one goes about convincing an individual. It can't use intelligent debate and persuasion. When dealing with large groups, always target the lowest common denominator an just flood them with information.

That means stick things in Hollywood movies these days :)

Now the two examples of propaganda he chose were both condoning morally questionable things, but that's alright. He probably thinks homosexuality is morally questionable. And that's OK with me. I think that phone companies billing by the minute for local calls is morally questionable, others evidently don't. I don't send them hate messages over it.
