There is a difference

My message to Sprite calls into question his motives for believing. If he had said "I am a Christian and I TRY to live up to my beliefs" there would be no problem. But making a conscious decision to go against those beliefs is nothing but a rebellion against the religion that he professes to believe in. One can sin and still live their "lives with integrity" in the knowledge that they did not do so intentionally. But to make a conscious decison to sin is rebellion against their professed God.

I think there's a difference between disagreeing with the traditional interpretation of the Bible and saying, "I am a Christian but damn God. I'm going to do what I want to do."

I do too.
We all know that the Bible is full of antiquated laws and rules.
"Don't scratch your butt or you'll go to hell" sort of stuff.
But, by arbitrarily drawing a line that says some of the laws are useless in today's society, you are denying the laws that still have power today. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Bible is supposedly "God's Word". If God doesn't know what he's talking about, who does? Do you think that His message can be amended like the Constitution of the United States? His laws were created to provide meaning and structure to a barbaric world. Has the world really changed all that much? We still have wars. We still kill each other. We still act like barbarians. But now we're more knowledgeable barbarians. And knowledge alone doesn't effect emotional growth.
