that the beliefs that Nathan is trying to pass off as Christianity were the faith that Jesus taught and which the martyrs down the ages have, and continue, to die for. It's a nice comfortable faith that allows us to DO WHATEVER WE WANT, EXCEPT VIOLATE OTHER PEROPLE'S FREE WILL. So it's all right to walk out on your kids? OK - so Nathan's talking about sexual ethics - but the principle is a dangerous one. Jesus taught us 'Repent for the kingdom of God is at hand' Repent - go GOD's way - not do whatever we want. It's a KINGDOM - which means that the KING RULES - if we want to be citizens we do it his way. There is an alternative - to spend the rest of eternity without hope in the place of wailing and gnashing of teeth - where all the worst elements of humanity will have free sway because God has abandoned us because we've chosen to reject him. Once you've decided to go God's way in your life, you then have to work out how to find out what that means for you. For each of us it is a different path - but God provides a 'comforter' - the Holy Spirit - to guide us along the path that is best for us and allows to make the maximum contribution to the good of the world. You might want to follow this discussion up in real life with the Alpha courses - a wonderful opportunity to discuss the Christian faith in a non threatening setting; all questions welcome.
