I think that anecdotal evidence is of no value whatsoever in this case. Those people you quoted are no different from you or I; there is no reason to expect that their opinions are any more valuable than our own. They are merely stating their belief, just as you and I have stated our own.
We have known all along that there are people who agree with your point of view. Thus, bringing stories written by such people to my attention doesn't bring anything new to the table. I could go to some forum, probably even that very same forum, and find anecdotes from people who disagree with you and believe that sexual identity is hardwired at birth. That would not bring anything new to the table either. We would be left with competing anecdotal evidence of absolutely no value. Having said that, I don't disagree that childhood sexual encounters can lead to sexual confusion. But then, so can the stereotypical college experimentation encounter. Ultimately however, confusion will not change a person's sexual orientation and their true orientation is bound to force its way out just like it did for all of us who tricked ourselves into believing we were straight in an attempt to bury our pedophilia. |
