Have you read Frank Herbert's Dune saga? Your point of view sounds alot like that of God-Emperor Leto Atreides II. Peace must be enforced through might otherwise people's natural tendency is towards war. Thats the beginnings of the dictator mentality (I must force you to do what I feel is best because I know whats good for you). It never ceases to amaze me how relevant that saga is no matter the time. Go pick up these books if you havent already. They may be fiction, but only because the author preferred to use fiction as a medium to explore the flaws of humanity and the merging of science, politics, and religion.
