Pornography. eye candy and beauty

Whatever else the Net is good for, it's good for porn - and I suspect most of us have indulged to a greater or lesser extent.

What is the basis of our response - and is what we are doing 'evil'. If so why?
I think the answer to this lies in the reality that we are lusting after the person(s) concerned as objects of our desire, not people who we want to know, care for and spend the rest of our lives with.

Equally the Net is good for pictures of beautiful places far away. And miscellaneous other items of art - that are things that we appreciate as things of beauty. The temple in Jerusalem was beautiful, and the early Christians continued to worship there until its destruction 40 years after Jesus' death. I have no difficulty with Christians enjoying beautiful things.

I don't have a picture of my YF at the moment (that's the one where there is no element of overt sexual attraction in the relationship) - but if I did, what would I get out of it? Beauty - no not particularly. But it would be a reminder of the strength of the bond between us, and an encouragement in hard moments that I've been blessed in having him as a friend.

On the other hand a picture of one of the 18 year olds where there is a substantial element of sexual attraction present might be seen as an objectifying of him - certainly that we are exchanging emails on a regular basis is helping me to keep him 'real'.

And what about the cute picture of the guy of your age of attraction, dressed or not dressed, whom you don't know.... Or the written stories of relationships, with or without an explicit sexual element?

Something for us to discuss over a boring weekend?!
