If we are so immersed in any one thing that God is outside of our frame of reference, then we are set apart from God, which is what I consider to be sin.

The above sentence is a perfect summation of what many of us were trying to explain to Jim. But I also understand that it's hard to explain "sin" to a person who doesn't believe in God, and I think this is why it's been so hard for many of us to bridge the gap of communication that exists between Christians and non-Christians. It's almost like trying to convince a child that a tablespoon of medicine (even though it may look bad, smell bad, and taste bad) is actually the best thing for him -- if he'd just be brave enough to try it. Telling him that it's worked for us is not enough. And I'm sure that cramming the medicine down his throat will not convince him either. Maybe if we just show him the change in us, and the healing that has taken place... just maybe, someday, he'll eventually want to try the medicine for himself? But, then again, he probably doesn't even realize that he needs healing. So, in the meantime, we just need to pray that he will be given the desire to seek God and call out to God. I love Jim. I definitely don't like some of the things he says about Jesus, but I can forgive him for that because he really doesn't know what he's saying since He doesn't even know Jesus. Also, Jim does make me laugh at times (even while I feel sad for him because of the beliefs he holds onto), and he has asked some good questions -- things he's obviously thought and talked about in the past. I hope Jim continues to seek out the Truth and asks that God reveals Himself to him -- not the God that he's read about, heard about, or has seen through the senseless actions of so-called Christians... not the God that he thinks he already knows, but the God that truly IS.
