I wasn't really trying to promote that viewpoint, as much as give Jim a context for some of the comments he's been getting from Christian participants.

I fully agree with your assessment of the context of this chapter. In fact, the whole of Jesus' life is not to be seen only in its smallest detail, but also in the whole. Jesus came to fulfill the law.

Moderation, Obesession, Gluttony...

This is the cornerstone that I am working on in my frame of reference. God expects us to live meaningful lives, to my way of thinking. How each of us finds meaning is likely very different. We are called to use our resources wisely, and I think, to avoid obession, moderation and gluttony. A recent poster talked about his obesession with sexual activity. It is not the activity in and of itself that is necessarily problematic, but the overall controlling feature of this activity. If we are so immersed in any one thing that God is outside of our frame of reference, then we are set apart from God, which is what I consider to be sin.
